How to resize a pixel art image in Photoshop

This is a way not very well known to most people, but certainly very useful when working with pixel art images.

The more, is extremely easy to do:

  • First open the image you want to resize in Photoshop.
  • Then go to Image > Image Size.
  • In the opened panel look to the bottom and click on the drop-down menu like the image below.
  • Choose Nearest Neighbor (preserve hard edges).
  • If you have checked, like in this case, Constrain Proportions, change the dimension of one between Width or Height.
  • In my case i changed the Width from 128 pixels to 1024 pixels.
  • Click OK and voilà, you’re done!

As you can see in the image above, the sprite is 8 times bigger than the original without losing it’s quality.
